Martin Scorsese Will Bring Us ‘Silence’ About 17th-Century Japan

Do you like period pieces more than mob movies or movies about cocaine folk? If you answered “yes” to that question, maybe take a few minutes and think about what your life has become. And when that’s done, you can do a little victory dance that Martin Scorsese will be bringing us Silence, a film about Jesuit missionaries in 17th-century Japan.

Scorsese has wanted to make this film for a long time, and if you don’t believe me, listen to the man himself. “I’ve wanted to make Silence for almost two decades, and it is finally a reality.” Boom.

And while this might be as instantly appealing as his more mafia-esque fare, it’s got a pretty sweet cast of iam Neeson, Andrew Garfield, and Adam Driver. And they even added an Asian actor in Tadanobu Asano. That’s nice!

The movie will hit theaters in 2016.
